What do compliance and data protection have to do with data quality?
These days, a lot.
The Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG – German Data Protection Act) stipulates that customers must consent before they are approached by telephone or e-mail for promotional purposes. You must document and store this consent. In the case of promotional campaigns, you require fast and reliable access to customers who have consented to being contacted. Furthermore, customers may ask what data you have saved regarding them. In this case, you must be able to quickly search for data from a wide range of systems in order to provide the right information.
The Außenhandelsgesetz (AußHG – German Foreign Trade Act) prescribes that you must only collaborate with business partners who are not listed on block lists in the EU or other countries. To comply with this obligation, you must check documented data for your business partners against these lists.
